As the umbrella organization for 300 + unions in Chicago and Cook County, Chicago Federation of Labor (CFL) amassed a large collection of historical assets, including The Federation News, photographs, documents, videos, and board meeting minutes. The Digital Archive Group was hired to organize, preserve and digitize the archive in preparation for its 125th anniversary in 2021. The CFL’s entire collection of historical assets is now accessible in a cloud-based digital asset management system.
The digital archive was very useful in the creation of the CFL’s 125th-anniversary publication. Their communications department also relies on quick access to their digital archive for creating social media posts relating to important dates in labor history.
