About the Project

Libraries, Museums & Institutions

Chicago Chapter, NSDAR was established on March 20, 1891, as the first chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Their members participate in the Chicago community and are dedicated to the society’s mission of promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children. As one of the most inclusive genealogical societies in the country, the Chicago Chapter understood their legacy and the need to preserve, digitize and provide access to their history.

TDAG archivists performed preservation and rehousing efforts while carefully handling and organizing documents and scrapbooks over 100 years old. Image technicians digitized the materials with a combination of overhead planetary scanners and Phase One digital back cameras. Digitization and file naming conventions followed strict NARA guidelines. Over 10,000 asset pages were digitized for this remarkable project.
